Russell Flying Club Completes Runway Expansion Fundraiser
The Russell Flying Club expanded the North South Runway at Russell Airport with hard surfacing and lighting, begun in 1980 after initial work by the Department of Highways in 1961. To raise funds, club members hosted bingo, booths, cabarets, raffles, a spring cabaret, and a lottery selling 250 tickets at $30 each, with prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. The September 10 event included a dance and a prize drawing where the 10th, 20th, and top prizes ranged from cash to merchandise and a gas barbeque, honoring winners from Russell and surrounding towns.
