The candidate outlines opposition to tariff protection, favors revenue-based tariffs and western farmer prosperity, condemns Liberal indecision, calls for national railway integration, completion of Hudson Bay Railway, Senate reform, vigorous immigration, and fiscal restraint, urging electors to vote for Progressive policies and unity.
The candidate pledges to cut public spending and immediately adjust western railway rates. He supports a tariff policy for stability, completion of the Hudson Bay Railway, a vigorous immigration program, opposing amalgamation of national railways, developing the livestock industry for Britain, and government merchant marine reform to aid producers.
A warrant issued by the Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Silver Creek Manitoba directs a tax arrears sale. Unless the owed taxes and costs are paid, on November 30 at 2 PM a public auction will be held at the Hall in Angusville to sell the mentioned land parcels for the unpaid amounts. Jas A Bela signs as Secretary-Treasurer.
The Girls Guild concert at Christ Church drew a large crowd despite poor weather. Mrs Jones-Brewer impressed as a violinist with Scotish airs, joined by Mr Irwin Graham in Londonderry Air. Mr Frank Carr and Miss Phyllis Slack also entertained, and Mrs Lucas led a praised quartet. The event closed with a National Anthem and dancing.
The Bishop of Brandon visited Shellmouth Harrowby and Russell last Sunday officiating confirmations for eleven youths in Shellmouth and addressing congregations in Russell and Harrowby. He spoke on the Walk to Emmaus and Psalm 71 verse one praising local families and church work, with musical accompaniment by Mrs Jones Brewer Mr Irvine Graham and others. He planned a return visit to Shellmouth in winter.
The council approves minutes from the last meeting and passes electric light, rink, cemetery, testing meters, and town accounts totaling multiple vendors and individuals. A by law to borrow 2000 from Royal Bank is approved to cover expenses until tax collection. Fenton Bros applications for town electric use of batteries granted with a separate meter and rates for up to 100 KWH per month and 100 per KWH thereafter. Councillor Park authorized.
The Women’s Institute held a regular meeting at Mrs. Johnstone’s home with good attendance and new member Mrs Iickett. A Halloween event on October 30 features a bazaar, ten cent tea, a fortune Witch, new piano, orchestra, dance at 10:30, and supper at 12:30 with dancing ongoing. Admission 25 cents ladies and 50 cents gentlemen.
The Russell local annual meeting elected R. A. Stevens president for the coming year. Secretary post to be reconsidered as current secretary cannot continue. Directors named include Miss N Bryant Miss I Jackson D E Boulton J Thickett and M Coulter. Delegates chosen and urged to notify numbers of birds to ship in December by phone. Directors will send lists to the secretary at week’s end.
Russell School lists top seniors from last week: David Millar, Reggie Muskett, Elsie Dunsmore, Ellen Calvert, George Hodgkins, Reia Bell, Maggie Mosoronchon, with grade rankings IX to V noted.

J. H. Farthing writes urging support for Stevenson the Progressive nominee and to vote on the 29th. The brief notice emphasizes backing the candidate and participation in the election.
Mr. Wm Iverach Liberal candidate for Marquette spoke at Mc Rostie's Hall on a Tuesday evening. J S Warrington chaired as the audience, hindered by bad weather and sparse attendance. Iverach praised a clean campaign and urged Hudson Bay Railway completion and Senate reform. He warned Canada unity hinges on Conservative restraint. Preston followed, scrutinizing the North Atlantic Steamship Combine and 25 years of transport policy, urging an eastern West Alliance to resist exploitation.
Shellmouth and Endcliffe hosts announce services on Sunday at 11 am and 3 pm respectively. Holy Communion to follow in Endcliffe. Confirmands to meet Mrs B Allen next Saturday at 8 30 pm. A Thanksgiving service with Holy Communion planned for Community Hall Dropmore on All Saints Day November 1.
Veterans note a tea event scheduled for next Thursday afternoon in the Veterans Club Rooms beside the Bank of Montreal under the auspices of the A and N V Ladies next month. Members are reminded to start preparing costumes for the gathering.
Local notes announce Dominion Elections nomination day on Oct 29 and a half holiday for Thanksgiving. Courier items report visits, upcoming weddings, lodge meetings, campaign events, illness, and critique of grain marketing and freight issues affecting growers.
Russell Curling Club calls a meeting at F. T. Matheson’s on October 30 at 8 p.m. All curlers and prospective members urged to attend.
The Banner Bookstore shows Felt and Velvet Hats in new colors priced from 3.00 to 7.00. Eagle self filling fountain Peng at 0c advertised. Community events include a Hallowe en Party and Dance by Rochedale Women’s Institute, a fowl supper by Shellmouth United Church, a Bazaar by Union Church Ladies’ Aid, and a Box Social and Dance in Inglis to raise funds for the rink.
A Tuesday concert by the Silverton and Stratford Mission Banus, with Rev. T. W. Bailey as chair, featured choruses songs and a play Tired of Missions. Proceeds totaled 4000. 8 Stevenson Progressive candidate spoke in Marquette, with local unit formed. funeral for Mrs. Joseph A Young held in Silverton United Church. Threshing delayed by rain and snow. Sunday services listed.
