Rural palliative care grows with volunteers and support
Since fall 2001 a local palliative care unit in Manitoba relies on 16 trained volunteers to provide holistic support to patients and families at home, in care homes, or rural hospitals. Amy Kostuik notes the program fills gaps in stretched urban systems, offering respite care, bedside support, and coordination while seeking sustainable funding through donations and community campaigns.
