Seeding progress hampered by early snow and wind

Train Derailment Sparks Fire Near St Lazare

A lumber car derailed on the CN line near St Lazare prompting an early morning evacuation. About 3 am on May 19 RCMP, EMS, St Lazare Fire Department and CN workers extinguished fires along the track after a wheel came off and sparks ignited along the vicinity.

Prairie Weather Feeds Stormy May Across Canada

On May 22 2002 prairie residents faced a mix of dust storms rain snow and freezing rain with five inches of snow reported. Medicine Hat Alberta saw temperatures swing from 30 C to colder 20 30 cm of snow by Wednesday. Iced power lines and falling trees caused outages across the province while by Thursday temperatures neared normal and water service resumed.
