Parkway Cooperative Limited held its April 12 1982 annual meeting in Elk's Hall Russell with about 75 members. Directors reported rising member engagement and a January 31 1982 sales total of 9 757 900 and a 173 500 1 8 percent saving. A fee increase to 10 and reserve transfer were approved. Nick Lushshin joined the board. Gary McCrea Glen Maxwell Walter Arndt elected officers.

Gasoline tax cut and cheaper loans in provincial plan
The plan includes a 20 per cent provincial tax on gasoline, 18.25 per cent mortgage offers to homeowners and 8 per cent loans to first time farmers. Conservatives captured over 54 per cent of votes, a record for a Saskatchewan party since 1906. In Saltcoats Riding Walter Johnson (PC) won with 3,004 votes while Edgar Kaeding (NDP), former member, had 3,481. Jim Couelson also listed.

Eyeglass Coverage Set for Manitoba Seniors
Manitoba will start July 1 paying 80 percent of eyewear costs over 80 for residents aged 65 and over. Health Minister Larry Desjardins announced the plan while presenting spending estimates, with an annual cost around 370000. The government aims to cover dental services and hearing aids for seniors within two years.

National Book Week Observed At Regional Library

Rural libraries to receive provincial operating grants
Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources Minister Eugene Kostyra announced that all rural libraries in the province will get grants at least equal to 1981 levels, provided their municipalities offer the same minimum support. Budgets cover maintaining last year’s support for shrinking towns and increasing aid to libraries in growing municipalities, with per capita funds and an equalization grant to offset shortfalls. Population figures rely on the 1961 census, though the minister noted changes since then.

Westman cable on schedule in Russell by May
Westman Media Co-op official Leo Boivin said Cable TT should be on wire in Russell by the end of May. Cargill to Rebuild Winnipeg Elevator After Fire
Cargill announced in Winnipeg immediate construction of a 3200 tonne elevator at the Sols site. The plan includes major renovations to the Solsgirth elevator, destroyed by fire last December. The 1.2 million dollar plant is slated to be ready for this year’s harvest.
