Parents Press Budget Cuts For Pelly Trail School Board

Public meeting in Rossburn College on April 2 drew about 200 parents from across the division to protest budget reductions for 1983. Trustees Garnett Cochran and Len Derkach outlined cuts, including Industrial Arts, Home Economics, and Music, with a plan to trim expenses by 132,903 and draw 219,894 from nominal surplus while seeking extra funding from the Education Minister.

Chamber of Commerce meeting endorses farm gate raise plan

The Russell and District Chamber of Commerce held an April meeting at Chicken Corral Restaurant. Resolutions supported boosting farm gate returns, urging the provincial government and national chamber to consider the measure, with unanimous backing from the convention. Beaver control resumes near Riding Mountain park

Natural Resources Minister Al Mackling and Environment Canada Minister John Roberts announce a continuation of a three year federal provincial beaver damage control program near Riding Mountain National Park for 1989. The plan funds 80000 annually to cover nuisance dam work and extends a five to twelve mile zone around the park. The program notes beaver populations are at peak densities in the area. Canadian potash producers report February sales of 318 639 tons of potassium oxide, up 28 percent from February.

Potash Sales Rise in February Figures From Institute

The Potash and Phosphate Institute reports February sales up 7.5 percent year over year with offshore sales contributing. A disappearance of 450,108 tons occurred in February, marking the first sales improvement in about a year. End of February inventory stood at 1.4 million tons.
