Crow Rate Debate Spreads Through Manitoba Farmers Union Meeting
On March 17 1982 at 2 00 p m in the Town annex Roy Atkinson for Farmers Union Board spoke on the Crow Rate changes. He cited CP revenue 1 327 billion from grants land sales and subsidies and noted grain rail share 43 3 percent in 1965 with coal at 25 8 percent. By 1990 grain rail share may fall to 11 9 percent and coal to 63 8 percent predicting coal gains from double tracking. The union urged citizens to act and attend an April 24 meeting in Morden Manitoba to vote anti Crow. a yes vote could end the Crow Rate.

Air Cadets Award Hunter Safety Certificates
Thirteen Russell Air Cadets received Hunter Safety certificates from Paul Heinl on March 8 1982. Over 40 cadets earned certificates in the past two years while eight senior cadets passed tests for 16MM projectionist certificates on March Sth. Three seniors travelled to Portage la Prairie on March 20 for advanced course interviews. The corps mourns civilian instructor Mr David Bowley who devoted hours to youth activities and will be deeply missed by all.
