A new united company, Federal Grain Limited, will begin operations August 1, merging Federal Grain Ltd Searle Grain Company Ltd and Alberta Pacific Grain Ltd. George H. Sellers, president, announced in Winnipeg. The firm will be the largest public grain company in Canada and among the world’s largest, with more than 1,200 country elevators and outlets and total storage over 110 million bushels.

Two-Depth System For Soil Samples
Farmers will send soil samples from two depths to Manitoba's agriculture department lab at the University of Manitoba. The new procedure starts July 1 and reduces required depths from three to two, cutting the per area sampling cost from nine to six dollars. A four year study shows results from 0 to 6 inches and 6 to 12 inches are as accurate as 12 to 24 inches.
