Russell's Centennial Plans Take Shape At Local Level

Program highlights for Russell's centennial celebration include a model railway display by a Rapid City resident, Roadside Canada, pancake breakfasts, a monster street dance, and a parade to open the four day fair. Main Street events feature two orchestras, old time and modern dancing, and entries in historical and commercial sections. A baby contest and souvenir shows are also planned.

Angusville Approves Waterworks By Law

Ratepayers in Angusville voted in favor of a local improvement area water distribution and sewage system. More than 80 percent of eligible voters cast ballots with 60 for and 27 against. The project is estimated at $104000 financed over twenty years via debentures.

Antique car lovers plan Expo cross country trip

A 1929 Chrysler pull along by Mr and Mrs George Brown and daughter Jean drew attention as they left Gortie Ontario for Victoria BC to celebrate a Centennial holiday. The antique vehicle in good condition required US tires and two spares. They expect twenty or more club members to join similar excursions as a Centennial project ending at Expo before returning home.

W I Sponsor 4 H Member At MFB Camp

The club planned to sponsor a deserving 4 H boy or girl for a week at the MFB Camp at Clear Lake. Mrs R Setter gave the day’s thought on the value of a smile. A late meeting agenda included a planned pot luck supper and the note that Casa Grande is a four story apartment house built 600 years ago by Indians.

Students at Russell Schools received crest awards after a Friday program honoring those who met committee standards. Top scholars earned gold crests, with silver and bronze placed among many named students and faculty members. additional honors covered top athlete and team achievements.

Centennial Year Festivities Stir Small Town

The community prepares for Canada’s centennial with a festive weekend beginning July 19 and continuing to July 20 as Dominion Day falls on Saturday. Class Awards At Closing Exercises At Russell Central

Allan Kewes led with four top awards at Russell Central Elementary closing exercises in the school auditorium. He won the Thomas Dunsmore Memorial Scholarship from the Home and School, the Rebekah trophy for general proficiency, and a science prize donated by Mr. Eugene Kahan, with his win joined by top student honours in science. Other winners included students from grades I through VI, with teachers and board members presenting the prizes and noting staff changes for next year.
