Last Tributes Paid to J A MacDonald Yesterday Afternoon
The sudden death of John A MacDonald on Sunday morning shocked many in the district. A pioneer resident of Sliver Creek, he retired from farming in 1922 and lived in Russell. Born in Ontario in 1861, he helped settle Sliver Creek in 1882 before returning north. Survived by his wife, four sons Bert Kindersley Saak Ainslet, Winnigeg, Ewart Russell, Chin, Kexina, and two daughters Adele Edmonton and Furs Calgary, plus siblings and grandchildren. Prominent local elder, Liberal supporter, and member of Russell Masonic Lodge, funeral at Knox United Church officiated by Rev H J Wallace with interment in Russell Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers listed. large attendance reflected his esteem.

Russell residents will host eleven girls aged 10 to 14 for a July holiday at Silver Beach. The Central Western Committee selected the youths for a healthful educational outing with swimming, sports, and physical training under instructors. Elks provide supervision, meals, and camp regulations with Prank Dimmery guiding activities and Mrs R Simms managing cooking. W W Wilson furnishes a cottage for the week.
