Manitoba Election Polls Open From Eight To Eighth PM

Voters in Manitoba will cast ballots in the provincial election on June 25 starting at 8:00 am with polls closing later that evening. Changes to the electoral act allow a single validator for those not on the list. Qualifications include British subject status age 21 or over and one year residency. Doll carriage contest at Russell fair event

In the exhibit hall at 3:00 pm prizes for dolls include 5.00 4.00 and 2.00. The older kids contest for best decorated doll carriage with a doll included is for girls eight and under with judging at 1:30 pm on July 17 in front of the grand stand.

Increasing Rents For Trailer Court In Town

The Town Council raised the trailer park rent from 10 to 16 dollars per month effective September 1. Several building permits were issued including a frame fourplex for G Sout ham and D Coppleman and a frame addition for Harry Stanchuk. A meat processing slant on lots 10 and 11 in law 791 was approved. A sale offer to move town property buildings to the Highways Department was considered. Civic holiday proclaimed for August 14. Tax roll gains and council expenditures noted with 9,256.63 dollars in payments. All council members attended.

Expos Win Third Straight In Week Schedule

The Russell Expos won three straight games this week beating Grandview and Angusville Juniors in league play. A 4 3 win over Grandview last Thursday tied the series, and an 8 6 victory over Angusville Juniors at home kept them atop the standings. One league game remains a home match with the Angusville Cardinals before the Binscarth tournament this Sunday.

Bantams Rally For Thriller Over Rossburn 11 10

Russell Bantams upset Rossburn 11 to 10 in seven innings. Richard Hudey earned the win after entering in the fourth as Russell moved ahead 9 5. Jim Wilson started and pitched three innings while Brian Muir Jim Wilson and St Jonner had three hits apiece. Dean Thom contributed two doubles as Russell closes schedule with three wins and one loss. Umpires Jim Petz Jack Wilson Gerry Bickn praised the game amidst cheering parents.
