Kiwanis Outdoor Service Draws 500 In Russell

Over 500 people attended a Kiwanis sponsored outdoor church rally at Wildwood Country Club in Russell. Rev Harland of Foxwarren spoke, with Rev J T Gawthrop and Rev C W Salmon assisting. Funds raised exceed 2000 to benefit Manitoba Flood Relief Fund. town collection 1265, F Clement Sons staff 360, additional donations via various groups. An additional 77 was donated to flood relief. organizers plan to make the event annual.

Added Attractions Planned For Fair

A Russell Agricultural Society meeting discussed plans for the July 20 and 21 fair. Committees reported features nearly ready and considered cost effective additions such as a band. Sports events including baseball and the annual horseshoe tournament were funded. Bob Witty urged a kiddies playground in the spruce grove with sand box swings teeter totters slides and a paddling pool. He was made committee chair with power to expand the project.

Russell School Dates Set for Summer Break and Fall Term

Russell school will close for holidays on Friday June 30 and reopen for the fall term on Tuesday Sept 5. The dates were approved at the last regular Russell School Board meeting. Also approved were accounts totaling 148.62 and a $40 monthly salary increase for Harry Pettitt starting July 1. Attending members included Chairman W E Fenton, Mrs May Robertson, D A Kinney, the secretary-treasurer and the principal. Foreign trade shows Canadians earn about a third of their national income.

Pooch Show A Doggy Affair At Memorial Rink

Russell hosts a Kiwanis celebration event with about twenty children and many dogs of all ages and breeds gathered before the Memorial Rink. Judges included Chas. F. Moore and Carl Malm, awarding prizes to dogs such as Smokey, Buddy, and Cracker. exhibitors list numerous named dogs and their young handlers.

No Appeals Filed In Courts Of Revision

The Court of Revision for the business tax roll and the elector's roll for 1950 met with the Russell Town Council last Thursday evening. No appeals were filed in either case. Regular business was transacted as the Inter passed accounts totaling $967.17 and a by law confirming the sale of town property. Mayor Mather presided with all council members present.

Agricultural Societies Hold Successful Meeting Here

Professor A S R Tweedie director of Extension at the University of Manitoba was guest speaker at the Agricultural Societies Conference in Russell Elk's hall on Tuesday June 13. Delegates from seven local societies attended and discussed support for adult education and community projects with the university providing information and speakers. Gordon Killoh was re elected district director and the 1951 meeting planned for Binscarth.

Fossils and donations mark Russell district museum notes

A fossilized dam found along the Assiniboine by Tod Billingsley is headed to the Manitoba Museum with L T S Norris Elye arranging naming by a palaeontology expert. Donations from a Friday tag day for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind exceed 189 dollars, with Winnipeg headquarters in view. Dudley, Manitoba Optometrist, Dies in Winnipeg at 72

F W Dudley, a well known optometrist and jeweller who ran a city business for fifty years, died in Winnipeg Friday after a short illness at age 72. He traveled across Manitoba, first visiting Russell about forty years ago and made many friends. Funeral service was held Tuesday.

Russell graduate wins prize at University of British Columbia

Douglas William Russell son of Mr and Mrs Chas Russell of Russell graduated in civil engineering at the University of British Columbia. He placed second in his class and received the Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association Graduation Prize of 50 dollars.
