Memorial Day Service in Russell Sunday

Memorial Day observance sponsored by the Russell Branch of the Canadian Legion will be held Sunday, June 9, at o'clock at the Memorial. if weather fails, the Memorial Hall will host. Legion chaplain Rev. W. S. Smith will lead. Ladies Auxiliary members meet at 1:30 at the rink to march with the Russell Elks band to the cenotaph. The service includes roll calls for WWI and WWII sacrifices, wreaths, The Last Post, and Reveille. the public is invited.

New CKDM Radio to Broadcast 24 Hours on New 730 Frequency

CKDM Dauphin announces 24 hour continuous broadcasting on a new clear channel 730 frequency. Western star Bey Munro hosts early show from 5:00 to 7:00 am with Manito Sans, Morning in Manitoba hosted by Larry Schwartz, and news by John McManus. A 225 foot tower was installed May 27 to reach listeners across Manitoba.

Home and School Meeting Highlights Provincial Convention

The Collegiate hosted a May 30 Home and School meeting with 33 attendees from Binscarth and Inglis. Reports from Mrs. G Caughill and Mrs. Matheson covered the provincial convention, stressing leadership, teacher standards, and parent teacher cooperation. New president Mr. T. Dunsmore led, thanked past officers, and Grade 3 won the banner with a closing Queen pledge and social lunch.

Last League Fixture Here Next Wednesday

The local ball club split four games this week winning two while Shoal struggled to a five inning loss limiting the visitors to three runs. Binscarth regained the league lead by rallying to beat Russell 87. In the Langenburg tournament Russell finished third after beating Theodore and losing to Binscarth in the semi finals. Foxwarren visited last night and Binscarth will host next Wednesday for the final league fixture.

Kiwanis canvass for White Cane week raised near $200

Russell marks White Cane week as Kiwanis members conduct the CNIB drive on Saturday. Canvassers visited business places in the morning while tag day followed in the afternoon and evening. Total contributions approached $200 but fell short of a previous record. The book remains open all week for more donations at Smellie Bros. office.
