Lights to Be Installed At Town Parking Lot
At the regular council meeting the Manitoba Power Commission was ordered to install two Mercury Vapor lights on 40 foot poles for the town parking lot on Russell's public parking area near Shell River avenue. Mayor Mather led with all councilors present. The council also granted Alex Chesky use of Lot 14, Block 111 for a garden in 1955 in lieu of taxes and set June 2 at 8 pm for the electors' roll revision court. Total accounts amounted to $817.45.

Local AOTS members from Russell club visited Esterhazy Saskatchewan for an installation ceremony. Rev W G Zwicker officiated with Russell club in charge. Bob Smellie led as chair and the Russell quartet performed with encores. Esterhazy ladies served a turkey dinner before the meeting. The district plans its first plowing match in years with open classes for all farmers and club members. Perils of Farming: Rod Clement Tossed by Steer
Rod Clement learned steering a steer is tougher than driving a car or flying. While guiding cattle on the reserve farm last week the steer bolted, he clung on for about 100 yards before being dumped on a gravel road. He suffered a broken small finger, a broken hand bone, and other bruises.
