Recommendations affect Carman Hartney area
Ottawa minister Otto Lang released Prairie Rail Actions Committee findings for the Hartney Carman Miami district in southern Manitoba. The plan recommends keeping the CN Carman subdivision from Carman junction to Graysville until 2000 with upgrades at 10.8 units, while abandoning the CN Carman Morris Somerset and CN Hartney Belmont Elgin segments by December 1983. Abandonments would remove rail service for 20 grain points, though centralization to CP Glenboro Nepinkala Riviere lines may reduce impact. Road-network abandonment is under way and freight hauling is not expected to rise more than 10 miles for most producers.
