Graduation Exercises at Rossburn Collegiate 1978
Pelly Trail School Division held bursaries and scholarships at Rossburn Collegiate on June 29 1978. Superintendent Doug MacIsaac presided as master of ceremonies. Diplomas and awards were presented by trustees principals and local officials with Eric Swedberg delivering the valedictory. Major Pratt Collegiate and numerous local bursaries were announced to a large group of graduates including Russell Branch Liske Donna Kalynak and many others.

Scott Drever special projects manager for minerals at Marathon Oil’s Findlay unit becomes general manager of Frontier Resources Inc a Marathon subsidiary moving to Denver from Findlay He is a 1961 Major Pratt High School graduate with a geology BS from the University of Manitoba 1965 He started at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting in Flin Flon rose to project geologist and later served as special projects geologist at Pan Ocean Oil Calgary 1972 before Pan Ocean was acquired by Marathon in 1976 He and wife Judy Pettapiece of Flin Flon have two daughters Kimberley 11 Kyla 8 Appointment effective 1

The Eighth Annual 4-H Fat Stock Show and Sale occurred Thursday June 29 1978 at Roblin Arena with show at 9:00 AM and sale at 2:30 PM at Roblin Auction Mart. Judges were Morris Lenkin Cromer Manitoba and Otto Hart Minitonas Manitoba. Winners announced across multiple 4-H Beef clubs including Assiniboine Beef Inglis Beef Tummel Beef and Foxwarren Heifer with junior intermediate and senior divisions receiving Manitoba Pool Pen prizes. Grand Champion was Garth Jackson Inglis Beef and Grand Reserve Champion was Miles Glasman Russell. sale prices paid by Prairie Livestock and others for champions and reserve champions.

Shaws Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary in Russell
Bruce and Islay Shaw of Russell Manitoba marked their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary with a Come and Go Tea at Knox United Church Auditorium on July 3 1978. The event drew relatives from Russell Binscarth and nearby towns. Bruce and Islay were married July 3 1928 at Rivers Manitoba. The couple later moved to Russell in 1987 and have a daughter Ellen Bryk of Beisnton Alberta and a son in Toronto.

4-H Club Members On Trip To St Eloie Quebec Exchange
Fourteen to twenty 4-H club members from the district travel by bus to Winnipeg then air to Quebec City and bus to St Eloie in a two family exchange with St Eloie 4-Hers. The trip, arranged by Russell 4-H District Council through Open House Canada, runs July 4 to July 12 return and August 16 to 22 hosting Quebec delegates.
