Fire Fighters Meet With Town Council In Russell
On Saturday June 26 1982 at 9 00 am in the Town Annex the Russell Fire Fighters met with the Town of Russell Council. They sought clarity on fire district funding fearing most would go to Binscarth to upgrade its department risking Russell’s collapse. The council said funds would cover Russell needs and some for upgrades. Binscarth may use banked money for its upgrade. They discussed updating the by law to define duties. The council has begun updating, and a new district agreement is being drafted with Fire Commissioner Kit Bell assisting.

Russell Chamber Considers School Board Delegation
The Russell Chamber of Commerce held its June meeting at the Central Inn and forms a delegation to attend the July 25 School Board meeting to push for an additional representative for the Russell area. Thirteen Juveniles Involved in July 28 Russell Accident
Thirteen local juveniles about 15 years old were in an accident late Monday on Municipal Road North of Silverton. Two Russell Police attended at 11:28 PM. Nine rear-seat youths were thrown from the truck. All were treated at Russell and District Hospital. three remained detained for injuries, one sent to Winnipeg in good condition. No liquor involved. Missing seven leather and chrome chairs from the Russell Flying Club. A small blue winter parka found at Kinsmen Park. owner may claim at the Detachment Office.

CN Derailment In Russell Yards Blocks East End
Last Tuesday evening two CN locomotives derailed at the east end of Russell yards. Oakburn section men were summoned to assist in the incident and cleanup.

Governor General's medal awarded at Major Pratt
Major Pratt held its 1982 graduation ceremonies with Bill Crerar named class valedictorian. The Governor General's Medal and parliamentary bursary were awarded for the first time at Major Pratt to an outstanding student, with Crerar receiving the top prize.
