Cattalo doubts and hawksbeard control guide
Agriculture Canada researchers warn against crossing cattle with buffalo citing higher calf mortality and slower feedlot gains while suggesting standard British and exotic cattle breeds. A weed called narrow leaved hawksbeard appears around Russell with guidance on control using Disc implements Embutox and early cultivation. Round bale feeders show tombstone type as best value and waste around 19 percent. Confucius Say quotes and Atwood quips conclude the column with local political jibe.

Step Closer To Solving Dutch Elm Disease Mystery
Canadian Forestry Service researchers at Winnipeg meeting say Cerato-ulmin CU, a fungal protein, is the likely toxic agent in Dutch elm disease. Dr. S Takai of Sault Ste Marie argues CU is present in diseased elms and may be identified by end of 1978. Findings show CU is produced by the disease fungus, toxic to American elm, with potential biological control paths and questions of practicality and cost remaining.
