Manitoba farmers rally at legislature to press aid
About 400 Manitoba farmers gathered on the steps of the legislature in subfreezing weather. A convoy of tractors and grain trucks tied up traffic along Pembina Highway as organizers urged a production cost support program to cover farming costs. They cited rising fertilizer and fuel prices and warned many producers may quit seeding without cash injections and policy relief. Local MPs said federal action is needed, with discussions planned between ministers and committees to discuss increased funding and safety nets for agriculture.
