Fourteen entries have been received for the Farmers' Bonspiel sponsored by Russell Chamber of Commerce. John Schwalm of Endcliffe led the entries with a rink, with participants from Endcliffe Silverton Minniska and nearby districts. Entries close February 27 to Herb Rutar at The Banner office. 32 spots total. The March 3 and 4 event includes a social Friday night hosted by Chamber members and their spouses.

Vital statistics compiled by C. J. Maher report a favorable 1949 year at the town office with 251 births split 122 males and 129 females. 1948 had 243 births. Marriages rose to 20 in 1949, up seven from 1948. Deaths declined by 22, with 19 males and 11 females dying in 1949 compared with 26 of each in 1948.

At the last regular meeting only two councillors attended. Mayor Mather presided as Gillespie moved and Bicknell seconded each motion. Actions included paying accounts of 261.45 dollars, selling lot 2 block 71 plan O to A R Fenton for 110 dollars, leasing lot 3 to Fenton for 1 dollar yearly, granting a 1950 restaurant license to Miss Grace Glasman, and approving one month leave for Councillor Margetts.

Funeral services for Mrs. George A. Allen, who died Sunday at Sacred Heart hospital, will be held this afternoon at 2 30 in Russell Church. Interment follows in Russell cemetery. Survived by husband George A. Allen two children Dorothy and Robert and three brothers Peter William and John Hyde with former son Sidney noted as killed in 1944 in Cannes France.
