Doctors Quit Deliveries at Russell Hospital

Petro Canada to close or sell over a third of stations

Petro Canada plans to close or sell more than 1 000 of its 3 200 service stations and about a third of its 340 wholesale outlets over the next three years to streamline operations and boost profits. Company says demand for refined products fell about seven percent last year and 2.7 percent in 1990.

Russell RCMP Officer Cleared in Bicycle Theft Charge

Const. David Dzuba of the Russell RCMP Detachment was found not guilty in Brandon provincial court of stealing a bicycle from the police lost and found locker. Judge Brian Giesbrecht said there was reasonable doubt he intended to steal the bike. Dzuba has not yet returned to duty and faces an internal disciplinary hearing.

Two Piglets Disappear by Roland Deschambaurt

On January 29 a Rossburn resident on Highway 45 faced a charge for driving while under the influence. On January 30 a resident of Angusville was arrested during a routine check on Highway 45 under a Canada-wide warrant and sent to correctional institute in Brandon before being returned to Vancouver. A Russell resident reported a US scam promising a trip and asking for a credit card number, leading to fraudulent charges. police say they are powerless to intervene. An February 1 motor vehicle incident in the RM of Birtle left a Brandon resident injured but not seriously, and hospitalised. February 2 a theft complaint about gas theft was received.

Kristy’s Neighborhood Pub opens in Russell Inn
