Huron Carole and CP Holiday Train Link for Charity
Tom Jackson founded the Huron Carole Benefiting Canada’s hungry in 1987. The CP Holiday Train fits his cause, with 14 tonnes donated this year and 14 tonnes since 2002. Jackson says the two tours share a gift to pass to others and aim to leverage food banks with ticket sales and donations. In 2001 the event raised 250,000 dollars, turning into five million dollars of food buying power through banked donations.

Struthers backs federal subsidy for Manitoba ethanol plants
Struthers says Ottawa should fund part of an ethanol subsidy as Manitoba relies on a 25 cent per litre support for Husky Oil’s Minnedosa plant. If federal and provincial commons align on 23 cents a litre, Manitoba’s annual cost would drop from about 35 million to 21 million. Don Hood and Gary Phillips of IMC Potash joined CP Holiday Train with a 3000 donation to food banks and pledged 2000 tons of potash valued at 220000 for Canadian Food Bank efforts in southwest Saskatchewan, aiding about 15000 acres of crop donations.
