Veteran’s daughter unveils WWII plaques detailing Hong Kong siege
Judy Preston and her mother Helen Prieston unveiled plaques by the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association in the Russell Multiplex on August 19 before about 30 attendees including WWII veterans and dignitaries. A prior unveiling occurred in Swan River two months earlier. The plaques recount the Winnipeg Grenadiers and Royal Rifles of Canada in the 1941 Battle of Hong Kong. Judy’s father Riley Prieston served with them and died years later in a farm accident. Judy, then a teen, pursued her father’s wartime story.
