Newfoundland Court Opposes Trudeau Constitutional Plan

A legislature report notes the Newfoundland Court of Appeal and Saskatchewan Premier join Premiers Lyon Blakeney and others in seeking a Supreme Court ruling on the Trudeau Broadbent package. It warns the Order in Council may face April 29, 1981 passage in Ottawa and calls citizens to object. The piece references metric changes, funding delays, and a Crocus Day tribute to Manitoba artist Belle Busch.

Crossbred Calves Offer Boost to Beef Herds

Beef producers can add about eight percent to calf output by crossbreeding cows this fall. Bob Bower explains heterosis or hybrid vigor improves calf health, fertility, and thriftier calves, with a potential 20 to 25 percent rise in fall calf pounds. A 50 cow herd could yield about 1,000 extra pounds of calves, worth roughly $1,400 at 80 cents per pound, though breed choice varies by farm.
