Fall rye survival in Manitoba winters remains uncertain

Manitoba fall rye appears to have survived one of the mildest winters with little snow cover and no major damage. Crop expert Al Martin warns two risks linger: a severe cold snap after dormancy or a prolonged freeze that could smother sprouts. Some plants greened in March, but Martin says that is normal in winter rye and not proof of trouble.
