Rusk Civic Service Plans Drive to Buy Cherokee Theatre
A campaign to raise five thousand dollars as a down payment on the Cherokee Theatre and adjoining building was launched in Rusk. The effort is led by the Bicentennial Commission of Rusk for the nonprofit Rusk Civic Service Inc. and endorsed by the Volunteer Services Council at Rusk State Hospital. Gulf States Theatres donated the two buildings to the RSH council for patients and residents. Joe Rozell explained officials are seeking public ideas as the group plots broad community representation. USC chairman Harry Phillips led the Tuesday noon meeting and the motion to pursue the proposal was approved unanimously.
