A windy day and a mock pro test march kick off the month long Clean-up Campaign in Rusk. The Rusk Garden Club invites the public to the annual flower show in the County Courthouse council room Friday April 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. The event features artworks by club members with themes Headlines in Flowers Current Events and Todays Good News. The horticultural division centers on Hello Plant World with entries in shrubs bulbs and flowering pot plants. Committees led by Mrs. T W Fisher coordinate show setup judging publicity hospitality and awards while Iris Garden Club from Rusk State Hospital contributes a special exhibit and the Jr Division presents The Animal Kingdom.

The tenth annual Rusk Quarterback Club All Sports Banquet will be held at the New Southern Motor Hotel Saturday at 7 30 p m. Fifty five athletes and supporters will attend a grilled steak dinner with coaches introducing players and Dallas Cowboys place kicker Mike Clark as guest speaker. The event will honor top male and female athletes with E H Whitehead and J L Hassell trophies and feature a welcome address by Gene Kelly and master of ceremonies Rev Grover Talbert. The twelve member board of directors will be introduced by incoming president Ike Daniels.

Voters in Rusk elected a mayor and two city council members in a close city election. E H White Head led with 219 votes, J C Williams 179, Raymond Cooper 157, M G Higgins 132. total 254 ballots. In the Rusk Independent School election three men won seats with 163, 160, and 154 votes. a tie at 89 votes involved Wells. Immediate run off possible in this south county district.
