A fragmentary record from Rush county September term 1878 lists numerous individuals and firms under allowances for road, highway, bridges, books and stationery, printing and advertising, county officers, and building. Names include Jacob Fisher Samuel Patte Hugh Cowan Rucker & Broghe J T Robertson Scull George Garner Samuel Thrasher JC Barton LG Ross Peter Schepler D Beher JW Green George Havens Enos Guard Coffin Binford Coffin etc. Amounts appear for many payees. some entries show small sums like 1 00 or 2 00, others larger totals such as 15185 for Sprout Armstrong. The document references associated offices and vendors including Indianapolis Sentinel Co, Indianapolis Journal Co, and W S Hargrove among others.
A gathering at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Ball in Posey township observed the fifth anniversary of their marriage. Relatives and friends from Knightstown Eden Amo Carthage and local neighbors attended. Gifts included a clothes rack and other small tokens. Rev. T. B. Gary spoke kindly of the couple and Mrs. Ball’s hospitality. Mrs. Azenath Ball, widow of Jonathan Ball, resides at the homestead at seventy five, well regarded for years of hospitality. Also notes on October issues of St Nicholas and Scribner magazines with features and writings by various authors.

Rushville on September 21 hosted a large female-led church gathering for Rev. A E Thomson and wife celebrating twenty years of marriage. A china gift set, goblets, ice cream, cakes, a dinner served by the congregation and music from the Rushville Band accompanied a speech by Rev. D M Stewart praising the couple and their union.
