Record cash in the Eastern New Mexico State Fair junior sale totaled 43771 dollars with 4703 added on. The combined 48474 dollars topped previous marks by about 20000 as 4-H and FFA members sold calves sheep and swine. Mabie rites set graveside in South Park Cemetery
Graveside funeral services for Milton J. Mabie 73 will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in South Park Cemetery with Chaplain Rodman Cookson officiating. Mabie a retired rancher and musician died Saturday morning at St Marys Hospital of natural causes. He was born June 27 1900 in Independence Iowa and lived in Roswell and the area most of his life. He performed on NBC radio for 19 years with Louise Massey and the Westerners and helped manage the group. He helped build the Adobe Hacienda near Picacho and worked in sheep ranching and orchard development in the Hondo Valley. He served on the Otero County Rural Electrification Act board for more than 25 years and returned to Roswell six years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
