Britain asks IMF for 3.9 billion loan to stabilize pound

Carter to visit New Mexico on October 8 for blitz

Democratic candidate Jimmy Carter will visit Albuquerque on October 8 starting a major campaign blitz with a noontime rally and small fund raising event. Towle seeks more funds for district highway projects

State Highway Commissioner Kenneth L. Towle of Hobbs says he will pursue additional funds for long range district projects in southeastern New Mexico. He notes a December meeting to review the five year plus statewide plan including 25 projects totaling 44 million in District 2, which covers eight counties.

Parade draws 35000 at Eastern New Mexico Fair kickoff

First day turnout at the 1976 Eastern New Mexico State Fair parade estimated at about 35,000 despite cooler weather. Fair executive secretary Burton Brown cited 6,947 paid admissions and roughly 9,000 with free entries, with rodeo gates down about 1,800 from last year.
