Eastern New Mexico State Fair Opens With Parade

The 54th Eastern New Mexico State Fair and Rodeo begins in Roswell for five days from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Parade leads off Tuesday with grand marshals Mrs. Bobby R. Baldock and Mrs. Martin M. Roswell and rodeo star Walt Garrison. Attendance could reach 55,000. animal entries set records with 115 calves, 293 lambs, 85 breeding sheep, 235 swine. Junior Livestock Sale next Saturday expects higher proceeds than last year’s $69,505.

Roswell Crime Costs Rise Despite Slight Offense Increase

Roswell crime in 1975 rose 3.89 percent from 1974 while monetary losses jumped 42.67 percent to 459,119 dollars. Burglaries fell 4 percent though losses rose 52 percent, robberies averaged 142 dollars each, and auto thefts reached 1,558 dollars per incident. Total offenses numbered 1,948 with 6,931 overtime hours logged by police.

Roswell Eyes Water Rate Study At City Council

Roswell officials plan an October 12 city council review of a water and sanitation rate study by Herkenhoff and Associates of Albuquerque. The study analyzes needed rate hikes over 26 years to fund an $18.7 million expansion, with six to eight months for completion and potential hikes in June or July 1977 at the earliest.

ENM Fair schedule for Tuesday September 28 1976

The schedule lists events starting at 8 a.m. with market swine judging and 8:30 a.m. entries closing for farm products. At 9 a.m. farm mechanics entries and County FFA and 4-H booths must be in place. A parade occurs at 10 a.m. followed by an Extension Service On the Spot demonstration from 3 to 5 p.m. A barbecue for visiting riding clubs and dignitaries is at 5 p.m.

Detectives arrest cop impersonation case in Florida

In Fort Lauderdale two men in plain clothes flashed badges claiming to be undercover detectives from Middlesex County Massachusetts. A Boston man, Brian Philip Blaney 26, was arrested on impersonating an officer and driving while intoxicated after a collision confrontation.
