Body found east of Grants believed to be missing Deborah Valdez
A body matching Deborah Valdez, a missing woman who was to start as a McKinley County sheriff's deputy, was found in the El Malpais lava field east of Grants. Identification pending, investigators said. Valdez had moved from California to New Mexico and was due to begin Sept. 17. Her van and purse were found earlier, tying to an Arizona homicide case.
