Warden Offered Transfer as Santa Fe Prison Reforms Begin

New Mexico Corrections Secretary Mike Hanrahan offered Santa Fe prison Warden Felix Rodriguez a central office job overseeing adult programs. Rodriguez will be replaced Friday by retired federal warden Lee Aaron of Dallas, as the department completes its reorganization. Aaron’s deputy warden will be chosen after his arrival.

Roswell senior tops state twirlers in Albuquerque meet

Roswell High School senior Jan Barry won top solo twirler in the 17 to 20 year old division at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque. She also earned best dressed majorette and a third place in military competition while balancing band duties with the RHS Big Red Band and private lessons.

City Council applies for a 105000 grant to study expansion of the sewer plant with J R Wilson and Co Engineers of Albuquerque to perform the analysis. If approved the total study cost rises to 105770 with EPA funding dominating and the city covering 13680 dollars.

Sale delay possible rail line eyed at RIAC

The GSA may delay bidding on 785 Wherry housing units at Roswell RIAC while it checks if a city built rail line linking the Santa Fe line to the TM Corp plant sits on federal property. GSA officials will determine ownership of the right of way before continuing. Hubert Hatch Jr. held the top bid of 4.8 million.

Roswell Mayor Fails in Calf Tying at State Fair Rodeo

Roswell mayor Jerry N. Smith tried to tie a calf with a rope during a special calf tying event at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair Rodeo. The calf escaped, leaving the mayor with only the rope as other Roswell residents attempt similar feats tonight.

ENM Fair Schedule Highlights Daily Events

The ENM Fair lists a full day schedule from 11 am to midnight with carnival fun at 7 30 pm and rodeo at 8 am Friday. Western horse show judging fat calves at 9 am and packer bid openings in the fair office. Exhibitors must notify by 2 pm if they will not sell animals. A Mexican Cookery demo by Chaves County Extension Aides runs 7 30 to 9 30 pm. Totals show 12 137 at fair and 1 006 at rodeo with Tuesday and Wednesday counts.
