Roswell residents surveyed say the Ford Carter debate was about even with no clear winner. Viewers offered mixed reactions noting Carter's poise and Ford's leadership while some saw solid points from both sides and a few did not watch the event.
Ford and Carter claimed victory after a contentious 90 minute debate watched by 1065 AP viewers. An AP poll found 34.4 percent favored Ford, 31.8 percent Carter, with 33.8 percent undecided or unable to choose. Carter widened his pre debate lead slightly, while Ford urged momentum. The session covered unemployment inflation taxes and domestic policy with no new proposals. The second debate is set for Oct 6 in San Francisco and a third on Oct 22 with Mondale and Dole to follow. The moderator was Edwin Newman with questions from Reynolds Drew and Gannon. Jordan said Carter started slow but gained command as it progressed.

Sunday September 26 1976 includes farm product entries open 1 to 6 pm 4-H Home Economics exhibits 5 to 7 pm poultry entries close and junior livestock in place. Junior livestock entry blanks due.
Roswell officials and the Roswell Independent School District approved in spirit an 80 year lease of the Wool Bowl for $1 a year. The final draft was reviewed at a joint meeting with changes including land use for utility lines, concession terms for the Boys Club, and responsibility for rebuilding if the stadium is destroyed.
