Mets Rally Beats Phillies To Narrow NL Race

Tommie Agee drove in two runs with a ninth inning single as the Mets beat Philadelphia 7-6. New York closed within three games of Pittsburgh and one behind Chicago in the NL pennant chase. Pirates won 3-1 over Montreal in the nightcap, Stoneman blanked them 1-0 in the opener. Chicago rainouts at St Louis. Other NL results included Atlanta 3 San Diego 2, Cincinnati 6 Houston 5, Los Angeles 1 San Francisco 0. In AL action, New York beat Washington 2-1, Boston 8-2 Cleveland, Milwaukee 4-2 California, Baltimore 10-2 Detroit, Kansas City swept Chicago 2-1 and 6-2, Minnesota 5 Oakland 3. Minnesota clinched West.
