Democrats Fortify Plans for New Mexico State Convention

At Santa Fe the Democratic party negotiates for the state convention with no confirmed contesting delegations yet. Sixteen counties may soon hold conventions and determine if any challenger delegates appear. Governor Arthur Seligman leads as uninstructed delegates are pledged to back his renomination despite no official declaration. Curr y 22 Harding 11 Lea 12 Quay 20 Union 19 list among counties instructing for the governor. John Simms of Albuquerque has one instructed delegation from Chaves county.

Ruth Woodard dies. to be buried in Oxford Kansas

Mrs. Ruth Woodard died at her apartments today at noon after moving here four months ago for health. She leaves two daughters Doris and Dana and two sons Bernard and Ferrell. Her father, living in Oxford Kansas, survives along with two sisters Mrs. L A Tryon of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Roy Tetter of Oxford and a brother Leland Bernard of Oxford. No local funeral. body to be sent by tomorrow's train to Oxford for interment. Talmage Mortuary in charge.

Admiral Sims resigns Legion membership over bonus stand

New Port BR Sept 23 AP Admiral William S Sims U S N retired made public a letter to the American Legion commander resigning as an honorary member in protest against the Legion’s stand on the soldier’s bonus. Sims commanded American Naval forces in European waters during World War I and is a member of the National Advisory Council of the National Economy League.

Parks Bound Over By Judge Winston For Fraud Charge

Leo Parks and his wife Mrs. Ruby Parks have been jailed since September 5. Judge Winston bound Leo over for district court in 1900 dollars on charges of fraudulently altering automobile numbers. Mrs. Parks was freed but must appear when court convenes. State contends the Chevrolet 1931 coupe is not lawfully possessed and that serial numbers were altered.

Roswell Native Clarence Pendergrass Visits Family in Los Angeles

Clarence Pendergrass, a 1920 Roswell high school graduate now in Los Angeles, visits relatives including cousin Glen Austin. Once a record carrier for five years in Roswell, he later entered the restaurant business and notes many changes since leaving ten years ago.

Road report cautions wet slick conditions to Vaughan

The state highway office reported this afternoon that travel over the road from here to Vaughan is possible but the surface is wet and in places slippery, urging caution for drivers.

Bernalillo County Dems Name 77 Delegates for Simms

The Bernalillo county Democratic convention named 77 delegates to the state convention to vote as a unit for John Simms for the gubernatorial nomination. The delegation also is instructed to back Dennis Chavez for renomination and Warren Graham for treasurer. County office candidates to be nominated later today.

Work to Secure Fair Funds at Eastern New Mexico State Fair

George Jewett announced work would resume in the morning to raise the Eastern New Mexico State Fair quota of 1600 dollars. He expressed confidence the goal would be met by tomorrow night with hard work and community cooperation. A Hagerman robbery report prompted Deputy Sheriff Dude Peck to investigate, with initial thoughts that the incident was not serious.

Last night the Chaves County Archaeological and Historical Society announced a float in the Big Parade at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair. President H M Dow appointed a float committee of C M Martin, Mrs John W Poe and Mrs W A Johnson.

Hagerman Lions Club Formation Promised in Roswell Meeting

Roswell Lions host Hagerman petitioners as D. N. Phillips district governor of Lions International speaks. Hagerman delegates include W. A. Losey Harold Dye Mr McCartney and C G Mason with at least fifteen expected. Meeting moved to 7 pm at Nickson Coffee Shop with H H Ball and Myron Prager directing programs. Phillips visits Clovis and Carlsbad on his New Mexico tour.

Santa Fe report states Albuquerque lived within its annual budget for the year ending June 30 1932 underspending the general fund by 26598.09 dollars. J A McNabb assistant state comptroller released the audit covering June 30 1931 to June 30 1932 prepared by Horton Bixley and Gold of Albuquerque.

Reserve Officers to Meet October 29

Albuquerque set for a one day convention of the New Mexico Reserve Officers Association on October 29. The executive committee announced the decision last night and more than 100 delegates are expected. Lt. Col. Fred Feasel of Albuquerque is president and Capt. R. J. Munro of Albuquerque is secretary.
