Campbell Brothers Circus drew a large Roswell crowd with a parade through the business district led by City Marshal Roscoe. The show featured Russian Cossacks Sioux Indians elephants ponies and two full brass bands in a two ring performance with aerial acts and a monster tent crowd.
Rome reports a consultation on Dr. Lapponi physician to the Pope who is ill with stomach cancer. Doctors favor an operation but Dr Mazoni deems the patient too weak for the procedure. Other notes mention wagon bridges on Union avenue and townspeople relocating Bernard Pos to Roswell to open a music store.
General Jas. C. Hill a Confederate officer and first Virginia railway commissioner dies at 76 in Scottsville. A cable from Honolulu says Sheridan transport to be saved after wreck at Barber's Point. Local notes include visits, fair news, horse racing prospects, and town social updates across Roswell and Artesia.

Judge Troup issued a temporary restraining order against the Omaha Coal Exchange and the South Omaha Coal Exchange and their members. They are barred from monopolizing the coal trade and ordered to deliver books and records to District Attorney Slabaugh. Jury drawings for next term announced with dates for grand and petit juries.
San Francisco labor groups condemn J. N. Gillette Republican governor candidate as an enemy of labor. The San Francisco Labor Council endorses Theodore A. Bell Democrat and favors a full Union Labor ticket. Julius Kahn and L A Hayes, Republican congressional nominees in the Fourth and Fifth districts, receive endorsements.
A typhoon struck the Philippines south of Manila with downed wires and unknown provincial damage. Manila remained largely unharmed while Cavite saw damage to the arsenal and shipping as gunboats were driven ashore. No deaths reported. Hong Kong reports sighting the body of Bishop Howe after a small boat incident.
In Whiting Indiana last night workers at Standard Oil quit in a wage dispute demanding fireman pay rise from 22 to 25 cents an hour and an eight hour day. The strike threat spread, with potential to involve all Standard Oil employees nationwide.
R H Mook of Parker Drilling Co plans to haul the well rig for Home Oil Co from Campbell to Roswell for the prospect hole. He changed plans after learning Campbell road was in poor condition. The rig is expected this afternoon.
