Reports from Shanghai to Tokio describe renewed Japanese efforts at Port Arthur with attacks on forts north of the fortress. General Stoessel notes the garrison remains in good spirits as Japanese bombardments continue and fort defenses repulse several assaults.
London on the day of Atonement reports violent clashes in the east end as over two thousand Jews confront nonconforming members of a Jewish club. Police number near three hundred quell the disturbance after clashes around the club house with stones and bottles.
At a quarterly meeting J P Riley was elected superintendent for the conference year and will take charge of the school next Sunday. He came from Paducah Kentucky last April and has been active in Sunday school work while employed as a bookkeeper with Garton Moss Co. He was later identified as J E Reeves and arrested here for insanity after claiming to have died in Jersey City six years ago and delivering a message to President Roosevelt. War Dept seeks arrest of Captain Ira Keithley of the Philippine Constabulary who vanished from the St Louis exhibit with 4000 dollars in funds. He had a noted military record in the Philippines returning from service in the Rysal province.
A wind storm in Marietta caused the death of Thomas Rose, 15, and injuries to two others with extensive property damage. The Ardmore report notes a house fire at Antonio Love’s Mexican settlement near the city, destroyed despite prompt fire response. The storm and fire disrupted a community as local residents seek shelter and repairs.

York Pa Sept 19 Michael Schall head of the Keystone Foundry and Machine Co and Miss Nettie Garmatt of New York were found dead in the young woman's apartments after leaving notes blaming the cruel world. Both had suffered from nervous affections and attributed the tragedy to them. Both were well connected socially.
In St Joseph Missouri yesterday seven people were injured when an inbound street car collided with a disabled outbound car on a steep grade. One victim Mrs J T Pierpont of Skidmore suffered a skull fracture and is expected to die. the other six are expected to recover.
Rome officials announced workers had decided to abandon the strike and the city returned to normal. In Palermo, strikers clashed with police as the red flag appeared. Genoa saw violent anarchist acts burning streetcars and destroying a royal flag amid unrest sparked by perceived threats.
Helena Sept 20 Advancing plans to win endorsements from the Democratic state convention looming as Populist and Labor parties prepare in Helena. Some party members resist the idea and favor running an independent slate of state candidates. Expected intense sessions as the conventions open tonight.
