Jackson California September 19 Rescue squads freed forty seven miner corpses from the Argonaut mine after a nineteen day blackout. They reached a bulkhead barrier and found a third barrier near a final trench where the victims died of suffocation from lethal gas within hours of entrapment.
Twenty graves county youths join state college as the freshman class grows nearly twice as large and overall enrollment climbs twenty percent. Roswell graduates lead in scholarship and athletics, with four Roswell High graduates in the 31st year and G E Boothe, a Roswell High School graduate, commanding the cadet battalion. The Roswell group strengthens ties between Roswell High and the Aggie campus.
Sheriff John C. Peck has returned from Lincoln county where he spent several days searching for Gus Beck who disappeared from the city. Beck said this morning that nothing would shed light on the matter. More than 20 men assisted in the search.
C C Harbert arrives from his ranch for several days in the city to tend to business matters and handle official duties.

Washington reports that backers of the soldier bonus bill nearly abandoned hope for passage this session as President Harding prepared to veto the Fordney McCumber measure. A late senate poll indicated 34 senators would sustain the veto, exceeding the required margin. Harding completed his four billion dollar veto message to Congress and planned to send it to the Capitol that afternoon.
At the regular meeting of the American Legion last night officers were elected including L. I. Dungan as Post Commander T. J. Pearson as Vice-Post Commander Frank Whitaker as Post Adjutant Ben S. Jaffa as Financial Secretary Rev. Pratt as Post Chaplain Curtis Hill as Post Chaplain and Julius Goodart as Sgt at Arms Plans for the year were discussed and members planning to attend the New Orleans convention were urged to notify Col. F. W. Thompson promptly.

He outlined needs in physical health, mental development, social training and finances, urged stronger community support, and announced a County Kiwanis district convention at Gallup.
