Obama’s Jobs Plan Aims To Cut Payroll Taxes And Boost Public Works

President Obama pledges a long term plan to cut payroll taxes in half for many workers and offer incentives for employers to hire. The plan would fund tens of billions for public works, extend unemployment benefits and help states avoid layoffs. He targets a deficit reduction of about 2 trillion over ten years to satisfy a congressional committee. Republicans oppose the spending, while some Democrats push back on provisions. Pelosi argues tax cuts alone won’t spur the economy without public works and government aid.
