Kansas City reports cattle receipts of 15 000 including 3000 southern, market steady with ranges for native and southern cattle and calves. Hog receipts 8000 with prices 9.25 to 9.50 for bulk sales and 8.10 to 9.35 for heavies. Sheep receipts 20000 with steady market. muttons 4.00 to 4.60 and lambs 5.75 to 7.00.

Zeppelin VI Blows Up in Germany Injuring Three

Baden Baden Germany Sept 14 The dirigible balloon Zeppelin VI entering a new shed today was blown up by a motor explosion in its gondola. Three crew members were seriously injured. This marks the fifth serious accident among the famed but brief Zeppelin air ships. Zeppelin VI was chartered to a passenger airship company replacing the wrecked Deutschland.

Lovington Defeats Knowles 12 to 1 for $1500 Purse

Roswell players Caldwell Wright and Davis, all Lovington locals, contributed to Lovington's 12 to 1 win over Knowles in Lovington New Mexico last Saturday. Caldwell pitched struck out sixteen while Wright had two three two bagger hits. Davis also contributed in the field as catcher Wright, and Davis shortstop helped secure the victory.

Pathologist Links Abdominal Flesh to Crippen Victim

London Sept 14 Professor Augustus Pepper of the University of London testifies at the Crippen murder trial that severed body parts found in the cellar show surgery skilled hands and anatomical knowledge. He identifies a six by six inch abdominal piece bearing a scar and notes Mrs Crippen bears a similar scar. Pepper cannot determine the victim’s sex under cross examination as court watchers fill the room while Crippen remains calm and Le Neve shows distress.

Former refinery official sentenced for underweighing frauds

Ernest W. Gerbracht former Williamsburg refinery superintendent and Charles R. Heike former secretary treasurer of American Refining Company were convicted last spring of conspiracy in under weighing frauds. Gerbracht received a two year federal sentence and a $5000 fine while Heike s sentence was pending. Gerbracht was released on a $25 000 bond pending appeal.

Baseball Tour Plans Reach Across New Mexico and Texas

Roswell hosts a series of baseball games with Santa Fe visiting next week for five games starting Tuesday. Las Vegas follows two weeks later for the same five games on the same days, then the squad goes to Albuquerque and El Paso comes to Roswell. Possible addition of Munsell from Dallas, moving to the New York Giants next year.

Elks Plan Winter Social Calendar With Several Dances

The Elks entertainment committee met at the Elk club and outlined a winter program. Besides bi monthly dancing parties, five formal events were set for Thanksgiving or the night following, between Christmas and New Year, a January party, and celebrations on St. Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Days. Patronesses were named for each event as details were discussed.

East First Street property owners press to open the street east of the railroad. They propose to pay the railroad for a crossing and seek landowners east of the track to grant a street strip. The issue was brought to the city council last Friday night with no action taken.
