City committee launches drive for 2.2 million bond

The Committee of 100 and Roswell school leaders launched a drive for a 2.2 million bond to fund building repairs and expanded vocational training. The plan allocates 1.1 million for repairs and 1.1 million for vocational facilities with 555 thousand at Roswell High and 600 thousand at Goddard High.

Sealed grand jury resumes probe into Maryland corruption

The special Maryland grand jury probing political corruption resumed under unprecedented secrecy with U S marshals sealing court corridors and restricting access. The probe, led by George Beall, targets kickbacks in engineering contracts and may involve Vice President Spiro Agnew. Baltimore County official N Dale Anderson is charged. Partly sunny in Roswell today through Friday with highs near 90 to 92 degrees.

Roswell Day and Pinto-Paint Day highlight the 36th annual New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque. 33,442 attended opening day. pari mutuel horse wagering totaled $422,730 as races resumed. Jim Young headlines rodeo Friday with top RCA hands. Spanish Heritage Night drew 5,700 at Tingley Coliseum. Death of Bruce Palmer and wife in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City journalist and public relations executive Bruce Palmer and his wife Leila died of asphyxiation after their car ran in a rain storm. Police said carbon monoxide seeped through walls to an upstairs bedroom where the bodies were found. Palmer had led the Radio Television News Directors Association and recently became director of WKY Radio and TV and KWTV.

Allende Widow Granted Asylum in Mexico City Embassy

Hortensia Bussi de Allende widow of Salvador Allende and her children have received political asylum in the Mexican Embassy in Santiago. Earlier reports of her death in the bombing of the Allende home in a Santiago district are not confirmed by this release.
