Artesia Football Coach Misses Expected 190 Pound Quarterback

Artesia Bulldogs coach Reese Smith was excited about a possible 190 pound quarterback moving from Fresno to join the team. The student enrolled, checked his uniform, but failed to attend classes, prompting officials to investigate. Indications point to the 190 pound athlete being an airman from Walker Air Force Base.

Phone Post Wins Battle With Sedan

A 1949 Oldsmobile sedan driven by Oscar Villanueva collided with a teleph one pole two miles south of Dexter on U S Highway 285 at 2 15 p m. Villanueva 22 and Armand o Baca 22 were Mexican nationals. Villanueva was fined 105 for reckless driving Baca 15 for drunk and disorderly. The Olds was demolished. Dexter also reported two GMC trucks earlier in the day.

Fund for Teresa's Baltimore Journey Tops $1,000 Mark

The Teresa Aldinger Fund rose to 1119.86 dollars for a five year old girl left blind by a rare disease. Funds cover travel to Baltimore Maryland Johns Hopkins care and surgery for Teresa and her mother staying six weeks. List of additional contributors follows.

Ingram Pickett Attacks Governor Mechem On Primary Plan

Democratic contender Ingram B. Pickett condemned Governor Edwin L. Mechem for supporting a party convention to endorse candidates before the May primary. Pickett accused the governor of seeking to remove voting rights from the people and urged voters to decide the issue at the ballot box. He refused to rule out another run for governor in 1958, saying he will answer critics and continues to pursue his political path.

Adj. Gen. Am manuel Schifani says the National Guard will sell its armory building at Fifth and Silver in Albuquerque soon after it is appraised. Negotiations Progress To Avert Phone Strike

A Western Electric spokesman sees a strong chance for a settlement to avert a nationwide strike set for Monday. Joseph Beirne of the Communications Workers of America says 54,000 members would walk out at 6 a.m. local time in all states except Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire, plus the District of Columbia, if no deal is reached.

Farmers to Receive Awards at Roswell Cafeteria Banquet

The Annual Bankers Award Program and Banquet will be held Monday September 23 at 7 15 p m in the Roswell High School Cafeteria. Grocery Breakin Net Cigarettes And Cash

A Tarleton Grocery at 406 E McGaffey St was broken into with fifty dollars in cash and four cartons of cigarettes taken. Police took a juvenile into custody two hours after the 6 05 a m report. Forty three dollars and fourteen cents were recovered. A turquoise beaded book containing IDs was reported missing.

Council Approves City Land Plats Pecan Acres Vista Verde
