County agent Al W. Woodburn projects a 60000 bale crop this year, up from 55839 last year, with 32105 acres planted and 32572 allotted, while noting factors like loan parity, picking costs, and disease impact may adjust the figure.
Dr. Robert Watson of Littlefield and Leroy Spires Jr., a West Texas rancher, face armed robbery charges bound over to the Third Judicial Court in February. Bond set at 2500 each after a hearing where W. A. Thompson testified he played cards with Spires and Watson. Thompson said a whiskey bottle struck him and a .45 revolver was used to recover money. In Crofton Mill England miners protested a slow six year old pit pony named Jet that hauled coal to the surface. The state coal board said Jet would be reassigned to different duties and the miners returned to work.
A heavily loaded truck swerved to avoid a car on U S Highway 24 near Mapleton Illinois and overturned, killing six occupants including Clyde Henry Bennett age 45 and his wife Pauline 47 and three generations of the Bennett family. Junior Bennett 37 drove the car and died later in hospital. The truck driver Julius Green 31 of Toledo Ohio was uninjured.
A speedboat on Lake Tahoe was struck by a large wave tipping the craft. Five of eight passengers were thrown into the water. three, Irene Raymos, Joseph Texara, and Michael Brusaco, died. Pilot Raymond Kechley and Russell Bacon rescued Judy Brunck and Marlene Perkins. Kenny Texara, age 4, was aboard the vessel.
A Los Angeles mother gave birth to triplets weighing 4 pounds 4 ounces, 5 pounds 1 ounce and 5 pounds 7 ounces. The family plans to move from their one bedroom apartment as the boy Bruno Ve Sota imagines names like Davy Crockett and Tonto while the mother says the girls will be Marie Grace Grace Marie and Mary Elinore.

In Glendale California a 16 year old boy Clyde Allen Baker died from suffocation in a rear house detached from his family home while the four relatives in the front house watched television. A younger sister alerted firefighters after discovering the blaze.
