Roswell DA Fires Assistant District Attorney Rosenthal

District Attorney Michael F. McCormick announced the dismissal of Assistant District Attorney Jay F. Rosenthal for internal reasons. The firing occurred at 5 p.m. Thursday in Rosenthal’s vacated Roswell office, with McCormick citing policy disagreements and promising no pending cases will be dropped. Ron Walker will replace Rosenthal as senior prosecutor.

Democrats win top ballot position fight

U S District Judge S E Campos ruled the 1978 general election ballot form will not change to move Democrats from the top. He ordered a neutral future ballot design that includes all parties, noting risk of unconscious votes favoring those listed first. The ruling stems from a suit by the state Republican Party led by Garvey Carruthers against Secretary of State Ernestine Evans.

Gumforys Plan Council Plea Over Sewer Line Repair

Mr and Mrs Ernest Gumfory plan to urge City Council to fix a broken sewer connector under Atkinson Avenue at their expense or have the city assume responsibility for buried lines. They argue the street is state jurisdiction but that the city may own it and should repair it, while considering closing the street portion as a toll road to test ownership.

Roswell DA DROPS DEMANDS FOR SOURCE NAMES

District Attorney Michael F. Mc Cormick withdraws demands for confidential sources used in a Daily Record series on Roswell Correctional Center. He says an independent investigation will probe possible drug trafficking and crimes at the center. The Roswell office had sought the sources named in Part VII authored by Melissa Adams and Ciel Lonen. The staff and paper refused to disclose identities.

Republicans Plan Big Barbecue Kickoff Campaign
