Roswell Voters Approve 1.25 Million Library Bond

Roswell voters authorize a 1.25 million bond to construct and equip a new public library on Pennsylvania Avenue between Third and Fourth streets. Turnout neared 6,169 in the election with a 565 vote margin 3,367 voting yes and 2,802 no. Officials aim for a Christmas 1977 opening, with plans to hire architects Alley and Associates and begin Precinct work.

Hobbs Man Indicted in Hit-and-Run Case

Johnny K. Blakely, 21, of Hobbs, pleaded innocent in district court to homicide by motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and driving on a revoked license. He is charged in the death of 32-year-old Aubrey E. Gene McGuffin Jr. near Riverside Drive and Union Avenue on July 7.
