Mrs. Benny Herrera of Albuquerque identified her son Frederic among a group of American POWs filmed by North Vietnamese. The footage aired on national TV Monday night after her family prayed daily at mass.
A Roswell man Jessie Melvin Busby treated at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center after a two car collision five miles east of Roswell on U S 380 at the N M 253 junction. Barbara Jean Busby driver and Robert Lee Fleming 41 of Seagraves cited for improper left turn and driving left of center. The report includes later notes on a missing soldier Frederic Herrera and Silver City Municipal League Conference plans for September 8 to 10 led by Tucumcari Mayor Kenneth Schlientz.
Judge George L. Reese Jr. sent a Roswell girl to the Girls Welfare Home in Albuquerque until age 21 or release and sentenced Randy Browning to 60 days in county jail after admitting marijuana disposal. The court planned possible Michigan supervision for Browning after release and indicated possible dismissal if conduct improves. Two other juveniles were paroled to parents. A 14 year old and two other youths admitted larceny over 100 dollars involving Martin's Texaco Service on West Second Street.

Da Nang Vietnam AP Swiss freelancer Giancarlo Meyer 23 was wounded twice while filming near Fire Base O Reilly 20 miles west of Hue. He described an American jet downed and a pilot killed as South Vietnamese troops fought North Vietnamese forces. Meyer was hit in the leg and hand but continued to document the action as jets napalm swept the area and a helicopter crew evacuated survivors. He was hospitalized in Da Nang for about a week.
Arthur Joe Vasquez 18 pleaded guilty in 5th District Court to unlawfully disposing of marijuana. He had been charged with burglary of Pecos Valley Advertising on January 27 and burglary plus larceny at Smith Machinery Co. on March 30, with other charges dismissed. Judge Reese deferred sentencing pending a presentence report and Vasquez remained in custody.
