Major Doolittle Sets World Land Speed Record At Air Races
Major James H. Doolittle shattered the world land plane speed record at the National Air Races in Cleveland by averaging 296.287 mph over a three kilometer course. He surpassed the eight-year mark held by Warrant Officer Bennett of France by 17.807 mph after six runs with speeds including 293.047 and 309.040 mph.
