Ernest Coleman 19, of Roswell, died in an automobile crash on Organ Pass fifteen miles east of Las Cruces while traveling from his home to New Mexico State Teachers College in Silver City. Classmate Asa Irby of Artesia escaped with minor injuries after a blow-out sent the car off the road. Coleman had attended a football game between State Teachers College and N M M I and was staying with his parents for the weekend.

Winnie Ruth Judd Captured After Flight From Hospital
Winnie Ruth Judd, the so called double hammer killer, was recaptured near the Arizona state hospital grounds after six days of freedom. She appeared unkempt and emaciated, carried bread crusts and canned goods, and wore a blue hat and old coat. Judd had previously killed two women in 1937 and concealed them in trunks shipped to Los Angeles.
