Mental health needs loom in Chaves County jail study
Detention Administrator Alfonso Solis reports about half the inmates have mental health issues at CCDC and up to 75 80 percent show psychosis or bipolar disorder. He cites funding cuts, home visits reduced by Counseling Associates, and a revolving door for patients with little support. Solis advocates a secure regional mental health facility with integrated intake to divert dangerous cases from jail. He envisions a one stop crisis center staffed by medical, law enforcement, and social services.
